In Hinduism, Bhairav is a manifestation of Lord Shiva. He is the guardian of time and cosmic order and is worshipped by travellers as a guardian of the road.
In Vajrayana Buddhism, Bhairav is thought of as a protector of the dharma and a deity that transforms fear into spiritual awakening.
In Nepal, Bairav is considered a form of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara.
